I'm back

Hi everyone, just thought I'd post a message to inform you that XSIDB is NOT dead. I had to take the past 9 months or so off and concentrate while I finished up some schooling. Now that I'm done with that I can get back to making the database a lot better.

A few things need to get changed and improved. Mainly the material upload system. Although it is functional, I believe that it can and must be better and easier to use. Secondly, I really want to develop the scripts section but unfortunately the last go around wasn't functional and kind of convoluted. It needs a simple, straight forward system of organization. A rigs / models section is in the works too. Lastly, it was suggested by some of the folks over at XSIBase that I start a forum for XSIDB. I didn't originally because I didn't want to step on their toes but I've been given a go ahead and am working on this as we speak.

These are my hopes for the coming year. If you have any suggestions please feel free to send them in. Also if you want to help with the project contact me as well. Unfortunately there is no money for work that is done but will be greatly appreciated by the community. Some of the areas I need help in for development of the site are:

- PHP / MySQL
- Javascript **
- Forum Moderators
- News gatherers
- Resource gatherers

Sincerely, Eric Thivierge

PS - I'll be at Siggraph again this year. Hope to see everyone again.

Shaderball Tutorials

As per request by a few people I've added some Shaderball Tutorials to the left nav bar that explain the entire workflow of how to create your custom material preset. I go over downloading and installing the addon, what the shaderball scene contains, how to render your preview pics, and how to upload it to the database. If you find that you are still confused or have more questions about the process drop me a line and i'll address it in an update to the tutorial.

Rigs On Hold

Hey all, the rigs section is on hold for the moment while I have dug in deep to the scripts section. The new section will also include a new navigation system that will hopefully make navigating really easy. If it works out in the scripts section then I'll retro fit the materials section to it as well.

Speaking of the materials section. Has anyone been having problems uploading new materials? Let me know because there was a bug that someone just informed me about. Let me know by REPORTING A BUG!

Sorry for the lack of updates / progress. School is insanely time consuming this year. Luckily it's over in May then a real push to get the site finished off before Siggraph '08!

Later...

Rigs Section Coming

I have been surfing the forums on XSIBase.com in the past few months and there have been a bunch of people developing rigs and rigged characters. I've hosted two so far on XSIDatabase.com at the following urls:

http://www.xsidatabase.com/rigs/ballRig_V021.rar - Vladimir's Ball Rig
http://www.xsidatabase.com/rigs/David.rar - David Aguilar

Since there has been a bit of a buzz in the XSI community about this, a new section is being developed on this site to accomodate rigs. If you are interested in having your rig hosted on XSIDatabase.com please register for an account (it's free of course) and wait for the section to be put online. Hope this will help people who are sick of the biped guide / rig.
